Botox Aftercare: The Do's and Don'ts
Botox is one of the lowest-downtime treatments in aesthetics — most people walk out and carry on with their day. Still, a few simple aftercare steps in the first 24 hours help the product settle exactly where it was placed, so your results come out even and natural.
The First 24 Hours: Do
- •Stay upright for about 4 hours after treatment.
- •Gently exercise the treated muscles (a few natural frowns or brow raises in the first hour) — many providers suggest this to help the product engage. Dr. Taborga will tell you if it applies to you.
- •Relax and go about light, normal activity.
The First 24 Hours: Don't
- •Don't rub, massage, or press the treated areas — this can move the product to nearby muscles.
- •Don't lie face-down or take a long nap right after.
- •Don't do intense exercise for the rest of the day (increased blood flow can affect settling).
- •Don't get facials, microdermabrasion, or other facial treatments for a couple of days.
- •Avoid excessive heat — saunas, hot yoga, and sunbathing — for 24 hours.
- •Go easy on alcohol the day of treatment, which can increase bruising.
What's Completely Normal
- •Tiny bumps or redness at the injection sites that fade within an hour or so.
- •Minor bruising in some people — usually small and easily covered.
- •A mild headache after forehead treatment for some patients.
These are expected and temporary. If anything feels unusual, your provider is a phone call away.
When Will I See Results?
Botox isn't instant. It typically begins working in a few days and reaches its full effect by about two weeks. Resist judging your results too early — and if you'd like any fine-tuning, that's best assessed at the two-week mark.
Make It Last
Beyond aftercare, the biggest factors in long-lasting, natural results are correct placement and dosing — which come down to your injector. At Captivate Medical Wellness, every treatment is performed by Dr. Marcelo Taborga, MD.
