Non-Surgical Brow Lift: Botox, Filler & What's Actually Possible

6 min readBy

The position and shape of your eyebrows significantly influence how your entire face is perceived. Well-positioned brows open the eyes, create a rested expression, and frame the face beautifully. Low or heavy brows do the opposite — creating a tired, stern, or aged appearance.

For patients not ready for surgical brow lift (forehead lift), non-surgical options can produce meaningful improvement.

Understanding Brow Anatomy

The ideal brow position varies by gender and face shape, but general principles include:

  • For women: Brows typically arch above the orbital rim, with the peak at roughly the lateral limbus (outer edge of the iris)
  • For men: Brows typically sit at or just above the orbital rim with less arch — flatter brows look more masculine
  • Medial vs. lateral: Different muscles control different parts of the brow

Understanding which muscles depress which part of the brow is key to non-surgical lifting.

Botox for Brow Lifting

Strategic Botox placement can reshape and lift the brows by:

Relaxing depressor muscles: The orbicularis oculi (outer portion) and corrugator muscles pull the brow down and inward. Relaxing these allows the frontalis muscle — which lifts the brow — to work without opposition.

Result: Lateral brow lifting of 1–3mm is achievable, which can dramatically open the eye area.

What to avoid: Over-relaxing the forehead (frontalis) actually causes the brow to drop. This is why careful, expert technique is critical.

Filler for Brow Lifting

Filler placed strategically in the brow and temple area can:

- Add structure along the brow bone, creating an indirect lift - Restore volume in the lateral brow area where fat pad deflation causes drooping - Support the overlying skin and soft tissue

Combination Approach

The most effective non-surgical brow lifting typically combines:

  1. Botox to relax depressor muscles and achieve functional lifting
  2. Filler to restore structural support and volume where needed
  3. Skin quality treatments to address laxity

What Non-Surgical Approaches Cannot Do

Honesty is important: non-surgical brow lifting has real limitations.

- Typically achieves 1–4mm of brow elevation - Cannot address significant skin laxity or hooding - Cannot replicate the comprehensive results of a surgical forehead lift - Requires maintenance every 3–4 months (for Botox component)

For patients with significant brow ptosis or significant hooding that impairs vision, surgical consultation may be more appropriate.

Is It Right for You?

Non-surgical brow lifting is ideal for patients with: - Mild to moderate brow drooping - Lateral brow heaviness creating a tired appearance - Preference for gradual, reversible treatment - Not yet ready for surgical intervention
